Kaitiaki

Caring for our School Gardens, Community and our World

Kaitiakitanga means guardianship and protection. It is a way of managing the environment, based on the Māori worldview. We like to think of ourselves as kaitiaki, because we are the guardians who look after our school gardens and environment. Our goal this year is to look beyond our school to see how we can help our community.

Every Wednesday we work together in our school garden with Mrs B. We plan the crops that we want to grow and we plant our own seedlings. We plant new vegetables, nurture them, and watch them grow. We love eating fresh vegetables from our garden and we enjoy sharing some with our community.
